Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a condition where blood sugar levels increase during pregnancy due to insulin resistance. Recent research indicates that changes in the gut microbiome, including low biodiversity and increased inflammation, may contribute to the development of GDM by affecting glucose metabolism and immune balance.

We screen and analyze your gut composition to detect bacterial diversity and signs of insulin resistance, bloating, inflammation, leaky gut, and microbial infections that may increase or affect gut health, preconception, and/or risks of pregnancy complications such as GDM.

Our clinically validated, microbiome-based early screening test identifies women at risk for GDM far earlier than glucose-based approaches — allowing OB/MFM practices and employers to intervene with personalized nutrition, lifestyle, and clinical care before hyperglycemia and complications develop.

The microbiome diversity score is our assessment of your sample in determining whether your gut is within the normal range of a healthy population (scores 4-7), over diverse (scores 8-10) or lacking diversity (scores 1-3). A diverse microbiome helps prevent pathogens, enhances resilience, and supports gut health.

The GDM risk score is our assessment of your sample in determining whether you have a higher risk of developing gestational diabetes (HIGH) or lower risk (LOW). Patients who score “HIGH” on their GDM risk score may need additional nutrition and health help than those who score “LOW”. Please consult with your health care provider about your score.

Test results are delivered as a PDF through Miora’s secure patient and clinical portals. Clinics can only access their patient’s results if the patient has previously connected with their clinic through their portal using a clinic-specific code provided by the Miora Health team.
